Dolls - Oh so cute...

Thanks to my newly acquired yarns, I now have yarns in many colours, including skin colour and is now able to try my hands at making dolls.

They turned out bigger than I expected, about 7inch tall.  The most challenging part of these were the hair. Lots of patience there as the pattern calls for making of each curl individually.

I also attempted to make spectacle for one of the dolls using wire. Not as difficult as I thought it will be. :). And gave her a different, nerdy look.  I like!

Trying my hands at creating patterns

Most of what I made previously have been created with free patterns I found on the web.  When I ran out of inspiration on what to do next, I decided to try out some simple pieces purely from my imagination.

Creating simple spheres were easy but the challenge is trying to get the sizing correct for the various body parts.

I made 2 pieces and they were only so so, not great.  The kitty in costume ended up with feet that were to big and the rabbit ears on my hooded girl were too small.

I did make 2 handphone charms with token inside and they were actually Ok. Though one of then do have a lopsided ear.

Oh well... Hopefully it will be better next time.

Yarns - What a difference.

For all my previous creations, I have been using the various yarns I got from spotlight, usually when they are on offer.

I recently bought a batch of yarns from Taobao, China and wow.. It made a big difference!!!  Crocheting the amigurumi creations suddenly became smoother and much easier, especially when I have to make the smaller parts.

I got a lot more colours for this batch of yarns and the best thing is, they are cheap, about S$0.50 per 25g, making them about S$2 for a 100g ball.  The cheapest yarn I got from spotlight was about S$3 per ball.

Latest creations

With a lack of inspiration for new items to crochet, I decided to make duplicates of some of the pieces that I did before, but with different coloured yarns or slightly different accessories..

So... Presenting... More owls and snowmen!

Snowman is coming to town

Time flies and we are in October, just a couple of months away from Christmas before we say goodbye to 2014 and welcome in a brand new year.

As someone who doesn't celebrate Christmas, it is the time of the year for me to take a long break from work, do some traveling and spend some time with the family without the burdens of daily life's stress pressing on us.

I have always been fascinated by snow being from the tropics where we never have snow.  However, I am lucky enough to be able to travel to places that do snows.

To friends and folks who have never seen snow, here are some snowmen that will hopefully make you smile when you look at them.

Pattern found here.

Roly Poly kitty keychain charm

This is one of the free crochet patterns that I have kept in my pinterest board for a while.
Finally drummed up the energy to pick up the hook and start on it.  As usual, once I start on it, I had to get it done asap or risk not finishing it.
Somehow, not that satisfied with the end result but... Maybe I will do another one in another colour.  Let's see how it goes.

Crochet bone

I was looking for some quick and easy project and was going to make cute little amigurumi hearts since I already had the pattern for that.
While in the midst of making it though, it dawned on me that I can actually expand the pattern to get a bone... I just needed to make 2 pieces of the extended heart and join then together.
So that's what I did!
What I did was to start off with the same stitches as got making the heart but instead of closing it totally at the end, I started crocheting a stem by just continuing in rounds with the same number of stitches.
This is a really small version of the bone and cannot replace the previous felt version of the bone that I made to use as a cable tie.  It is however, small enough for me to use it as a  handphone charm to hang on my phone. :)
